A former under-19 cricketer for Haryana and self-proclaimed Mumbai Indians player, Mrinank Singh, 25, has been arrested for defrauding the Taj Palace Hotel in New Delhi of over Rs 5 lakhs in July 2022, reported news outlets sourcing IANS.

Singh, also accused of impersonating a senior IPS officer of Karnataka, deceived cricketer Rishabh Pant and several luxury hotels across India. The hotel filed a complaint after Singh left without settling bills, falsely claiming that his company Adidas would make the payment.

Singh, evading investigation, was detained at the IGI Airport while attempting to fly to Hong Kong. He attempted to influence officials by posing as ADGP of Karnataka Police. Further investigations revealed Singh’s duping of multiple establishments, including conning Pant of Rs 1.63 crores in 2020-2021. Singh faces charges of fraud, impersonation, and influencing officials. He has been granted two days of police custody after appearing in court.
